Gerrit Rietveld[12]
Dutch architect and furniture designer Gerrit Thomas Rietveld (1888–1964) was one of the pioneers of modern design. Initially trained as a cabinetmaker by his father, he established his own workshop in 1917. By 1919, he transitioned into architecture and joined the ‘De Stijl’ movement, which shaped his avant-garde style. Rietveld’s focus was on creating harmony between architecture and interiors, making furniture that adapted to people’s lifestyles.
